Sweeping Promises

I’ve never been to a post-punk show but it’s not out of dislike for the genre, I genuinely hadn’t heard of it until a friend of mine told me about Sweeping Promises. I logged into Spotify, searched them up and played Hunger For A Way Out. I was hooked Immediately and instantly got tickets to see the band live in Brooklyn, NY at the Market Hotel.
Two bands opened for Sweeping Promises. First there was Pleaser, an electric duo, and Vanity, a four-person high-energy band. As SP were getting on stage to perform, the audience all huddled towards the stage and the cozy venue got smaller.
Hunger For a Way Out was the first song they played, and I was blown away by the lead singer and bassist Lira Mondal’s beautiful and fervid vocal delivery. The crowd was bobbing their heads and swaying side to side, a natural reaction that occurs when one listens to the music of Sweeping Promises. There really were no dull moments, the entire band’s performance was playfully expressive and passionate. Towards the end of their show Mondal impressively was throwing some kicks while playing the bass and their lead guitarist, Caufield Schnug, was energetically moving around the stage while play the guitar. This high-spirited energy was also reflected amongst the crowd, the guy on my left was in his own little world jumping up and down. A group of girls to my right were also dancing and I found myself not being able to stand still, I mean how could you?
As they finished their set and the lights turned back on, my ears were ringing (in a good way!). Everyone, including myself, had a smile on their face and were still pumped from the performance. I thought to myself, I wish it never ended. After leaving the venue, I found myself replaying the show in my head and humming the melodies of their songs. Overall, there are only great things I can say about Sweeping Promises. Their music left me feeling inspired and wanting more. Their abstract album covers, and posters are stunning and really reflects the vibe of their music. I can’t wait to see what they have instore next.
