“These images show two stills taken from a recent video. The original video shows the cake being crushed and completely destroyed. This is emphasized furthermore through the stills, as they show a sharp contrast in not only the cakes physical attitudes, but also metaphorically the way 2020 was expected to go verses how it actually went.”

“I miss the closeness that used to be so simple. We used to hold hands and share drinks and touch each other just for the act of it, and that easy intimacy probably won’t be the same for a long time. And I miss grocery stores. They’re not the same anymore, they used to have this quiet loveliness and now it’s just just this desperate wasteland.“

“When someone usually thinks of the word metamorphosis they think of a butterfly forming from a caterpillar. I wanted to be able to showcase how everyone goes through metamorphosis. Change is metamorphosis and as long as you feel yourself evolving and changing into the person you want to be and accomplishing your goals you are going through metamorphosis.”

“I feel like often, my work doesn’t just flow right out of me- I’ll work on something and it just won’t be at the level of quality I want. Which I know is universal, I’m just terrible at coming to terms with it. But this piece is one of the rare examples for me where everything fell into place, and things just lined up perfectly. The process of creating the piece start to finish felt organic, and I think that’s the energy that the work radiates. And I also think it’s really cute.”

“It has to do with the relationship people have with new knowledge, and how it can change them. It’s about that moment when you’ve been struggling to understand something but then it all hits you at once, and hypnotizes you. And then when the moment is over, you come out a different person than before.”
