what’s so great about the 90’s?

For a while now there has been a national, even international, trend: The ‘90s. Grunge was basically the ‘90s’ middle name-- but there was something about the new style of the youth that took grunge and made it into something even bigger. Grunge made the 90s unique, but also made it fluid to many styles and craved by the searching adolescent. And here's why we love it so much today.
Trends ranging from the 90s to Y2K have been EVERYTHING these days. Low-waisted jeans or pants, crop tops, baggy shirts, silk and babydoll dresses, and let's not forget hair clips. Our generation is drooling over these trends for just one reason: they are applicable to almost anyone's style. A distinct marker of the ‘90s was that the clothes were fabulous at being flattering. The cut or shape of a dress, the jeans perfectly hanging off someone's hips. Whether you dress for class, sass or anything in between, these different pieces are of interest to many different fashionistas because -- no matter who rocks it -- it just looks so damn good.
The ‘90s had so much to it after the big hair and vibrant colors of the 80s. When we think back to the ‘90s, we don’t look back repulsed, or question how the heck one trend blew up, we love the ‘90s because it just worked.
Additionally, another key aspect of the ‘90s was that it was a time known for youth taking a stand and expressing their carefree beautiful style that had a hint of rebellion, which completely represents the cycle of fashion and society and how they go hand in hand, especially because our generation knows the importance of standing for what we believe in. Carefree of what others may think, we believe in who we are and we believe in the change we can make.
Not only heralded as revolutionary for their spunky, new era style, but for the ‘90s brought us iconic music, films, shows, art and more. Not only did these art forms influence the youth of the ‘90s, but also youth today. The ‘90s flourished with classic, beloved films like The Matrix, Titanic, Clueless, Pulp Fiction, Forrest Gump, Jurassic Park, Pretty Woman, and SO many I’m sure you’ve heard about. The shows we still binge today like Friends, Twin Peaks, That 70s show, Seinfeld, Full House, Sex in the City, which shows have had an incredible impact on our modern culture. And, let's not forget Nirvana, Radiohead, The Beastie Boys, Weezer, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Notorious B.I.G., Green Day, and so many more idolized artists.
The ‘90s was unique for its abundance of creativity and inspirational content. It was a new movement-- a movement that our generation today strives to follow. Behind the style, the films, the music, the message of the ‘90s eliminated fear and took on the world standing tall. The ‘90s will not only continue to influence us today, but will continue to flourish through decades, an iconic marking of the beginning of a new era.
