CLOSET DISSECTION WITH AMANDA QUACH

interview by celeste moses

C: Hi Amanda! Thank you so much for taking the time to talk to us here at Fever Dreams! Could you take a second to introduce yourself to our readers?

A: Hi! My name is Amanda Quach, my pronouns are she/her, and I’m a full-time student at a local community college here in SoCal.

C: I wanted to start by wishing you a happy (very) late birthday!!! How has virgo season been treating you?

A: Thank you so much! Virgo season always ends up showing me something new about myself every year, so it’s definitely been fun lol.

C: I remember first coming across your content some months ago on TikTok! I was so impressed by the uniqueness of your style! Would you say that there is a name for the everyday look you go for?

A: After spending so much time on Tiktok and seeing people fit their style or personality into certain categories, I’ve realized that I really just don’t like labeling myself as anything. My everyday outfits can range from “y2k” to “indie” to so many other things that I just say my style is eclectic!

C: And going back again to the previous question, TikTok has become the meeting ground for masses of Gen-Z with a subcultured For You Page for everyone! Would you say that TikTok has impacted you in any way when it comes to fashion, interests or even your mental health?

A: Tiktok has definitely helped me further curate my interests and has also given me so much inspiration when it comes to fashion and art. I never really made actual videos until quarantine hit and after reaching such a supportive audience, it’s helped me find a purpose to create everyday which has truly helped a lot with my mental health during these troubling times.

C: So, getting into the heart of this interview, we want to go back to the basics, what are Virghoes’ fundamental closet pieces? Any staples that are essential for daily wear?

A: My most essential closet pieces would have to be funky cardigans, basic cropped tank tops, cute midi skirts, and my Nike AF1’s. I feel like all of my outfits usually end up with at least one of those pieces every time.

C: You’re also a bit of an expert when it comes to styling your favorite pieces! What would you say are your top 3 pairings when it comes to your wardrobe?

A: My top 3 pairings when it comes to my wardrobe would have to be cropped cardigans and baby tees, midi skirts and platforms, and earrings with everything!

C: When choosing your outfit for the day, are you very communicative about your mood when you put an outfit together? Are there days where your outfits are just dying to tell people all about you before you open your mouth or are you more of a “distressed yet dressed” girl?

A: When I choose my outfits for the day, I usually think about where I’m going and who’s going to see me. That doesn’t necessarily mean I won’t look extra, but it really just comes down to comfortability (aka the weather and how long i’ll be out and about). I honestly would have no shame in wearing a two piece set and chunky boots on a gas station run to the nearest 7-eleven lol.

C: Many fashionistas believe in having a crowning jewel in every outfit, a piece that stands out beyond the rest. Something unique, charismatic and openly expressing itself in a stand-out way. I have a sneaking suspicion that your crowning piece is your delightfully unique earrings-- am I right?

A: Oh, I definitely love a good pair of earrings with every outfit I pick out. If anything, the one factor that can probably tell you how I’m feeling that day would have to be my earrings. On a good day I would choose a big, chunky earring to match the colors on my outfit and on more chill days I would just go for my standard, silver hoops.

C: Do you share in the philosophy of an accent piece?

A: Personally, I like to build up my outfits with a piece in mind. Whether it be a jacket or some shoes, I can choose how I would want to style that item. Sometimes I can end up with mixed patterns and other times I might have a full monochromatic outfit on my hands. To me, fashion isn’t just about finding an accent piece for your basics, it’s more about putting together something fun from your closet!

C: Finally, before our time together is up, in our usual Fever Dreams fashion, let’s sleep talk. Our Dream Journal on our website is a bit of a beloved space for us to blur the lines of awake and unawake and communicate between worlds. Over the course of this interview we’ve gotten to talk a bit about you in context to how you communicate yourself through fashion, but our final question is who are you in context of what unmakes you? What about you is so essential that you would unravel without it?

A: Something essential about myself would have to be my ability to not give a fuck. I honestly would not be the person I am today if I constantly thought about how others perceived me and it’s something I really pride myself in especially when it comes to what I wear or how I act.

C: And at last, as we end here, what can we do to support you?

A:You can support me by following my Instagram @virghoe_xoxo and my Tiktok @virghoexoxo! Thank you so much <3
